born to two veterans of the US military, and raised in Brooklyn at the pinnacle of social, economic and demographic change. Her grandmother Pastor Susie Elliott was the president of the Brooklyn Council of Churches; her Grandfather Bishop, John B. Elliott served as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors for the Family Services Network of New York and championed harm reduction, HIV/AIDS awareness and nutrition. Sarah spent her youth organizing with her family: establishing gardens, food pantries and advocating for education resources.
For Sarah the personal has always been political.
As a mother of six, four of whom have special needs, she has experienced the profound challenges faced by families across the city searching for resources and services for their children. Sarah believes that accessibility is at the heart of inclusion and is committed to policies that center the everyday people who make up New York City. That means language justice, more healthcare facilities, safe and affordable housing, and access to open spaces.
Sarah has been a Staten Island resident for 18 years.
She currently serves as the Director of Equity and Inclusion for Staten Island Women Who March, Director of Health for House of Community Baituljamaat and is an elected member of the Community Education Council for District 31. Sarah attended the College of Staten Island and a graduate of The Campaign School at Yale University. She is the founder of Staten Island Therapeutic Gardens and a 2020 Staten Island Women of Achievement honoree.
As a candidate for 23rd district Sarah plans to continue leading with love and community stewardship.
